Building Engineering celebrates success at the 2024 MBV Excellence in Construction Awards

On Friday night, over 750 guests gathered at the Palladium, Crown, to celebrate Victoria’s finest builders and contractors in the commercial and civil construction sectors. Building Engineering secured the Excellence in Civil Construction Under $10M award for our impressive work on the Fishermans Bend Innovation Precinct – Plant 18 Phase 2 Early Works project.

The Fishermans Bend Plant 18 Early Works project, carried out on behalf of Development Victoria and the Victorian Government, marked a significant step forward in enhancing the infrastructure of the Fishermans Bend Innovation Precinct. Our team embarked on a mission to construct an advanced substation and main switch room strategically designed to facilitate a new electrical supply point to Plant 18 from Todd Road. This ambitious project required the construction of a new concrete building, seamlessly integrating both in-situ and precast elements to house the Citipower substation and main switch room.

Navigating this project was no small feat. Our team faced a series of unique challenges that required tailored solutions. Among these was the need to meticulously coordinate after-hours service isolations to minimise disruptions to the critical manufacturing and testing processes of the Plant 18 tenant. The project’s complexity extended beyond its surface, with a heavy-duty structural design, extensive electrical works, and detailed coordination with Citipower, underscoring the depth of our expertise and commitment to collaboration.

We congratulate all the winners on the night, with a record of over 120 nominations this year, making the competition fierce!

A big shout-out to Hickory, who took home the Master Builder of the Year award, and Nicholson Construction, who won the Regional Commercial Builder of the Year award.

This award reflects our project teams’ hard work and dedication, who consistently aim for excellence in every facet of their work. We are proud to be recognised among Victoria’s finest, and this honour reaffirms our commitment to delivering complex projects with precision, integrity, and outstanding results.
