Greg Alexander inspires the next generation of construction professionals at Frankston High School
We are proud to highlight our Site Manager, Greg Alexander, who recently returned to his roots at Frankston High School to participate in a career day event. This special event aimed to introduce Year 10 Vocational Major students to the many career paths available through a panel of successful alumni.
Greg’s journey
Greg left Frankston High in 2002 and started his career with a carpentry apprenticeship. By 20, he was fully qualified and went on to run a thriving framing company. After an injury, Greg transitioned into site management, gradually taking on larger projects. Today, he manages 60-80 workers on-site on the impressive mass-timber Sages Road project in Glenroy.
Sharing wisdom and experience
The careers day featured a panel of alumni, including Greg, who shared their career journeys and the options they explored since finishing school. The session aimed to:
– Showcasing diverse career options through alumni stories
– Providing insights into life after school and the skills needed for various careers
– Encouraging exploration of different pathways and how to pursue them
– Answering questions to give students a deeper understanding of each career journey
After the panel discussion, students could break into smaller groups to ask more detailed questions of individual alumni, including Greg. This format provided a more personal and in-depth look at each career journey.
Impact on students
Greg’s talk left a lasting impression, providing them practical advice and motivation. By sharing his career path and offering insights into the construction industry, Greg helped students understand that they can achieve their career goals with determination and hard work.
We commend Greg for his dedication to inspiring the next generation of construction professionals.
