Immersive learning at Ivanhoe Grammar School: showcasing the Aquatic and Wellness Centre

Last week, Building Engineering, alongside architects from Peddle Thorp, visited Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Plenty Campus to give students an exclusive look at the progress of their new Aquatic and Wellness Centre. The event offered a unique, hands-on experience, allowing students to witness the construction process firsthand and dive deeper into the details of this exciting project.

The day began with a guided site tour led by the Building Engineering team. Students explored the under-construction Aquatic and Wellness Centre, learning about the cutting-edge construction methods and materials used to build their future facilities. They gained valuable insights into the various construction phases and could see how Building Engineering is transforming their school environment.

The centre, which will house two pools, modern changing facilities, multipurpose rooms, and a gymnasium, will be a hub for education and recreation. The project also includes outdoor sports facilities, including nine new tennis courts, an artificial hockey pitch, and a new turf soccer field.

After the tour, students were invited to a Virtual Reality (VR) presentation by Peddle Thorp, where they experienced the fully completed design. Using advanced VR technology, the architects brought the final vision to life, showcasing the thoughtful design and layout of the new facilities. This immersive demonstration allowed the students to visualise how the finished spaces will look and feel, making the project’s future even more tangible.

A special highlight of the day was hearing from Eren Gover, one of Building Engineering’s graduates and a proud former student of Ivanhoe Grammar School. Eren shared his career journey, from studying engineering at RMIT University to joining the team at Building Engineering while still studying. His story resonated with the current Ivanhoe students, showing them the rewarding paths that lie ahead in the construction industry.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Will, a student at Ivanhoe Grammar School, said, “It was great to tour the building and see how it’s coming along, along with the VR visualisations. It was really cool!” Erica, another student, added, “The tour around the new building was amazing. I got to learn how construction works, and it has inspired me because I love architecture.”

This collaboration between Building Engineering and Peddle Thorp provided a day of hands-on learning and inspiration. The Ivanhoe Grammar Aquatic and Wellness Centre promises to be a transformative addition to the school, offering top-tier recreational and educational facilities that will benefit students and the local community.

This event underscores Building Engineering’s commitment to delivering exceptional projects and engaging with local communities. The visit helped bring the project to life for the students, sparking inspiration and curiosity about construction and architecture.

At Building Engineering, we are proud of our ongoing partnership with Ivanhoe Grammar School and are excited to bring this cutting-edge project to the Plenty Campus. Thank you to Peddle Thorp for their collaboration in making this an unforgettable experience for the students.
