Wrapping Up National Safe Work Month: St Columba’s Team Wins “Think Ahead, Stay Ahead!” Competition

As October draws to a close, we’re excited to celebrate the successful conclusion of our inaugural safety competition. At Building Engineering, National Safe Work Month provides the perfect opportunity to challenge our teams to develop creative, actionable ideas on how foresight and planning can improve safety outcomes across our projects.

This year’s winning team is from our St Columba’s project, with their innovative “Blue Zone” concept. Their idea stood out for its forward-thinking approach, adding a new dimension to our safety management systems. The Blue Zone focuses on identifying and marking areas of heightened risk on-site, ensuring that only workers directly engaged in those works and only under a permit system can access these spaces, further enhancing safety on-site.

We were impressed by the team’s ability to think ahead and present a practical, easy-to-implement solution. The Blue Zone will be further discussed in our December OHS meetings, and plans are to roll it out in the new year.

Congratulations to the St Columba’s team and everyone who participated in this year’s competition. We look forward to continuing to work together to “Think Ahead, Stay Ahead” as we focus on creating safer, more efficient workplaces.
