Surrounded by several Victorian Government operational buildings and overseen by the statue of Chief Justice George Higinbotham, the treasury Forecourt is a hub of activity in Melbourne’s CBD.
Upgrades to the forecourt were initiated due to water ingress into the Treasury Theatre from suspected leaks in the existing forecourt membrane and an accumulation of efflorescence on the bluestone pavers due to inadequate drainage.
Building Engineering’s scope included the removal and replacement of existing bluestone paving and waterproof membrane, fl ood testing of new membrane, installation of new stainless steel drains and graded screening.
Three existing bluestone walls located on the forecourt perimeter were transformed into triangular planters which also required waterproofi ng and testing prior to installation of mature Palms and feature lighting.
Works were split over two stages, South and North, with the majority of works undertaken in stage one South.
Due to both site access and noise restraints, and a busy tram stop adjacent to the site, a detailed program was implemented with signifi cant works completed outside of normal trading hours.
