Building Engineering has proudly completed the latest stage of upgrade and modernisation works at Northcote High School in Melbourne’s north, delivering a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and library building. The new three-storey facility, designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, sets a benchmark for educational spaces in the region, offering a dynamic and flexible environment to foster innovation and learning.
The building features specialist laboratories tailored to STEM disciplines alongside flexible indoor and outdoor classrooms, allowing students and educators to adapt spaces to their evolving needs. With a focus on student support, the building incorporates dedicated areas that create a nurturing learning environment. At its heart is the John Cain Library, an expansive ground-floor library named in honour of John Cain Jnr, a former Northcote High School student and Victorian Premier. It provides a contemporary resource hub for students.
Kat Theophanous, State Member for Northcote, celebrated this new development and highlighted that the building “sets a new standard for education spaces in the inner north.” The project marks an important milestone in the school’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and modernise its facilities, equipping students with the tools and environment they need for future success.
