Building Engineering delivered the Outpatient Department (OPD) and Transit Lounge refurbishment for the Royal Melbourne Hospital in the first quarter of 2023.
The Transit Lounge welcomes patients waiting for discharge from the hospital, a day procedure, or a specialist clinic appointment.
The project scope included the delivery of a new library, medical staff lounge rooms and kitchens, meeting rooms, computer labs, consulting rooms, patient beds, and trolley areas.
New nurse call and medical gas systems were installed, along with body-protected electrical works, mechanical upgrades, and an extension of the existing dry and wet fire systems. Works included the removal and replacement of the existing 80mm concrete screed.
Building Engineering was successful in using innovative resin injection technology to provide a slab lifting service that re-leveled the existing floor. The slab was carefully lifted back to the required position, while also strengthening and consolidating the ground underneath to reduce the risk of future movement.
